What is the facial fat grafting consultation like?
During a consultation for facial fat grafting, patients will be examined to determine if they are eligible. Patients will tell Dr. Papillion which areas require an increase in volume. The patient will also be asked about their family’s medical history and if they are taking any medications or supplements.
The steps involved in facial fat grafting will then be explained, along with any potential side effects. Any questions and concerns can be addressed during this consultation.
What is the facial fat grafting procedure like?
During a facial grafting procedure, the first step is the removal of the fat. The locations of the harvesting sites will be determined beforehand. Once the fat has been removed, it will then be cleaned to get rid of damaged cells and to preserve undamaged fat cells.
The undamaged fat cells will then be injected into the areas of the face that require the addition in volume. These injections are quite precise. After the procedure has been performed, the patient is given a minimum of two hours to recover before being allowed to go.
What is the aftercare like?
Instructions for aftercare and prescriptions for pain medication will be provided by Dr. Papillion, since they may vary from patient to patient. Patients may be told to keep movements to a minimum during the recovery period.
How long does the fat last?
When we remove the fat and replace it in the area of need, the fat regains a blood supply. When the fat has a blood supply, it lives like it did before. Meaning that fat cells can survive as long as you do.
Will the fat go away?
Yes and no. We place new fat, and it lives and grows with you, however, you will continue to age and lose more fat and bone naturally. So for most people, you certainly could need more fat or filler as time progresses.
How long does it take for me to have my final results?
Right after surgery, you are pretty swollen. Over the course of a few weeks, the swelling will subside and you will be close to your end result. It will take about 2-3 months for you to have your final result when all of the swelling and fat has stabilized.
