Breast Implant Revision

CONVENIENTLY LOCATED TO SERVE NASHVILLE, BRENTWOOD, AND FRANKLIN

Breast Implant RevisionBreast implant revision or breast augmentation revision is necessary from time to time. There are two main types of revision. One is unfortunately when patients have issues with their initial surgery and need to have professional correction of the complications or results initially had. The other type of revision is more common and is more of long-term maintenance of the breast aesthetic appearance and implant maintenance. This would be in the case of a young woman who undergoes a breast augmentation in her younger years, has children, and or general life and body changes, and notices that over time there have been some changes to the aesthetic appearance of the breast. A revision in this patient could be needed to restore optimal shape, size, and appearance to what the patient desires at the present. Secondary breast surgery is advanced surgery. The surgeon you select for this secondary surgery is far more important than who you selected for your first surgery due to the complexity of the surgery. There are several changes that occur within the breast with having implants long-term. You must have an experienced surgeon to help navigate the goals and safely deliver the outcome. Of all of the procedures that Dr. Papillion performs, breast augmentation, breast implant revision, breast implant exchange, and breast implant removal remain at the top of his surgery volume list. He is very experienced in dealing with all implant issues and has performed hundreds of breast surgery revisions.

Why does the cost range so much?

The cost range depends on the procedure done. On occasion, the correction can be fairly simple requiring less time and expense. However, in larger revisions, the length of the case and additional supplies and methods such as mesh, fat grafting, and special implants, can add up very quickly leading to a higher cost.

Do I have to have drains after surgery?

Maybe. If the revision is small, you will not need a drain. If it becomes a larger revision, drains can be necessary to assist with fluid removal.

What does recovery look like?

Since there is such a wide range of revision needs, I really can’t give a defined recovery. I would say in general for small revisions, you could be back at work 3 days later and exercising 2-3 weeks later. For larger revisions, you could be back at work 2 weeks later and exercising 6 weeks after. It really depends on what is needed to get you back to the look you desire.
